Sir Casperron navigated as Little Josh, Adartgicgul and the knights made their escape through the thick fog into the clearing of the barrier reef. Waves smashed against the big and small rocks that randomly pointed up out of the water.
Little Josh looked over into the water at the sharks swimming and feeding. “Wow, I’ve never seen rocks like those before,” Little Josh pointed.
“They’re called coral,” Sir Casperron advised. “This is a reef, and you’ll find a lot of corals here.”
As Adartgicgul lifted his oar out of the water, there was a sudden snap. He was dragged right out of the dinghy into the shark infested water. A huge shark circled and headed straight towards Adartgicgul.
Little Josh quickly tightened a long strong rope to the harpoon. Just when the huge shark was passing the dinghy, Little Josh grabbed hold of the dorsal fin with one hand and the harpoon in the other.
With its jaws wide open, the huge shark turned and snapped at Little Josh. Little Josh wedged the roped harpoon into the shark’s jaws as he and Adartgicgul had time to get back into the dinghy.
The knights and Adartgicgul helped Little Josh hold on to the rope. The shark swam around in circles frantically trying to break free from the tightened harpoon wedged in its jaws, pulling the dinghies chained together, with it.
The dinghies ran aground the shoreline flipping the knights into the air onto the white sandy beach of Coconut Peak Island.
Little Josh, Adartgicgul and Sir Casperron held on even tighter to the rope as the shark dragged them up and down the shores of Coconut Peak Island. They shouted and laughed as they were having the adventure of their lives.
The shark stopped. Little Josh, Adartgicgul and Sir Casperron stood up, looked at each other and began to do their victory dance. They turned into the direction of children cheering them on.
“Whooah,” all three shouted as they began to run involuntarily, water splashing. Down they went on their bellies covered in sand and water.
“We must get to that coconut tree and wrap the rope around it,” shouted Adartgicgul.
They tightened the rope around the tree. “Where are all the knights? Josh asked.
As they looked around the beach, they were distracted by a child’s frantic scream. Little Josh, Adartgicgul and Sir Casperron ran in the direction of the sound. As they looked up, they saw a child hanging from a broken branch high up in a huge tree, her foot wedged between the branches.
Little Josh knew he had no time to climb the tree. “Adartgicgul, put your hands to the ground, now!”
Little Josh stepped into the palms of Adartgicgul’s hands. The giant pushed him up so Little Josh could help the child.
“It’s going to be okay. My name is Little Josh. I’m here to help you.” Little Josh held the child and freed her leg.
Adartgicgul lowered them to the ground.
“Thank you, Little Josh. My name is Novleeha.”
Little Josh introduced Adartgicgul and Sir Casperron.
Novleeha put her arm around Josh’s shoulder as she limped over to where the crowd of natives stood.
They thanked Little Josh and Adartgicgul, and immediately released the other captured knights.
“I am Chief Novhaha. Welcome to our island. You saved my daughter’s life. For that we are grateful. We are sorry.” said Chief Novhaha. “We do not take kindly to giants around these parts. That giant pirate Captain Copperhead over the years has been stealing from us. For your kindness, we will have a feast in your honour. I see you caught supper. Tonight we feast with the strength and power of the shark!
The children surrounded the knights, Little Josh, Adartgicgul and Sir Casperron. They questioned the strangers, and sat quietly while the visitors told stories of the land of Rodneon.
The Chief told the children, “Take our new friends and show them around our island.”
The children took their visitors to Sparrow Mound where they live, and introduced them to their families.
“There are so many different types of fruit trees and plants that I’ve never seen before,” said Josh.
“Wait until later,” said Novleeha, “the feast will be excellent and you can see a billion stars, and we get to stay up late.”
As they were gathering for the feast, at sunset, flairs lit up the east sky on the other side of the island. The native men quickly grabbed touches and rushed off.
What’s happening on the east side of Coconut Peak Island?
Why did the natives grab their touches?
Does this mean that the feast has ended?
Is there conflict between the west and east island? Written by L.N.C.
