Issue 2 - Javina's Secret - Queen Bee

“Hi, Javina, how are you?” asked Maximi, the bumble bee. “Isn’t it great spring has finally come? I was getting tired of staying indoors. Now, we can roam freely across the meadows collecting nectar and meeting new and old friends. Want to come with me to the south meadows? It’s peaceful over there; lots of flowers and nectar for everyone.”

“That’s a great idea,” replied Javina.

Maximi and Javina decided to merge the two colonies.

“Let’s go tell the others, and we’ll meet at Avina’s,” suggested Javina.

“Good idea,” agreed Maximi. “We’ll let them know that Avina’s the prettiest meadow flower and her nectar is the sweetest too.”

Maximi and Javina flew to the others and told them that the two colonies would merge into one. Everyone agreed. The flapping of wings buzzed through the meadow. It was a day of buzzing celebration for the colonies.

“Javina, why don’t you fly ahead to Avina’s so you two can have some time with each other,” suggested Maximi. “We will follow.”

Javina flew ahead.

Meanwhile, Stinger’s friends returned to the hive.

“Hey, Stinger, you told us that you stung Javina, and she is no more, and we would have all of her sweet honey. I just passed her at the edge of the meadow by the brook,” said Racle, the wasp.

“And we saw her talking to Maximi earlier,” said some of the other wasps agreeing.

Stinger was furious as she opened her wings and shoot out her stinger. “I will get her for sure this time. No one makes a fool of me and live, no one.”

All the other wasps stood clear of Stinger for they knew when she is furious, she will sting them too.

Stinger lifted off with great power and strength shaking the hive off the branch. Boom! The hive landed on the ground and smashed into pieces.

“This is all Javina’s fault,” as she headed for the meadow in search of Javina.

In the middle of the meadow, Maximi and all the other bees surrounded Stinger.

Maximi asked, “Going somewhere, or looking for someone, Stinger? Maybe Javina?”

Stinger’s friends arrived. Racle the wasp stopped the other wasps and said to them. “Can’t you see we are out numbered; a million to one?”

That very moment, a chameleon lashed out its tongue and swallowed Stinger.

“Did you see that?” asked Racle, the wasp. “They have a secret weapon. Let’s get out of here, now!”

Javina finally arrived at Avina and greeted her.

“Hi, Javina. You look beautiful, today. You are ready to undertake your true form.”

“Oh, Avina, you say the nicest things.”

“I meant what I said, Your Highness. You will become a queen bee this very day. You will rule the South Meadows.”

“How did you know I was going to the South Meadows?” asked Javina.

“How do I make the sweetest nectar?” asked Avina.

“Oh yeah, you work together with the river, land, sun, wind, ants and other insects,” replied Javina. “I feel something good is going to happen when we get to the South Meadows, but right here it feels like Stinger is no more.”

Javina's Secret

One day, long ago, the wasp and the bumble bee met while they were flying.

“Hi, my name is Javina,” said the bumble bee.

“I am Stinger, the wasp,” she said showing Javina her stinger while trying to intimidate her.

“See you later,” said Javina and continued on her way. Everyday, Javina always took the same path and did the same things, buzzing from flower to flower always saying good morning to the other animals and insects.

Stinger and his friends would laugh and say not so nice things about Javina.

In spite of all the things Stinger and her friends did, Javina continued what she set out to do; building her hive and making the sweetest honey in the land. Sometimes the winds would help Javina to pollinate.

Avina, the prettiest meadow flower, was full and overflowing with the sweetest nectar of all flowers, for miles. Everybody loved Avina.

Avina invited Javina to stay and chat. Hours passed as they laughed and talked that day. Javina learned how the land and the water met and worked in harmony as they listened to each other. How the night and day respected each other. Javina also learned how Avina made the sweetest nectar and how she works with the river, land, sun, wind, ants and other insects that made it possible for her to make the sweetest nectar in the land.

“Javina,” said Avina. Now you will be known as Sweet Javina Honeybee. That moment, Javina stopped and listened, and in a flash, saw how the meadow and all that were in it worked together.

“I have to bee getting home. Bye Avina and thanks.”

Off she went.

“What’s the hurry,” Stinger said, flying next to Javina.

“I need to get home.”

The next morning, Stinger and her friends waited and watched for Javina. As soon as they saw her, they started to laugh at her.

“What do you have there?” asked Stinger.

“I was on my way to give you some of my freshly made honey. Here, taste.”

“Mmmm. This is good. Can you teach me how to make honey?”

“Sure,” said Javina.

That day, Javina showed Stinger how to build the honey comb. Soon after they laid the last piece of the honey comb, Stinger stung Javina.

“Why did you do that?” asked Javina.

“Now, I will have the sweetest honey in the land,” said Stinger.

Days and days passed as Stinger waited for the honey, but there was none.

You see, Javina the bumble bee, never gave up the secret to Stinger. So to this day, wasps keep stinging, and bees keep making sweet honey.
